19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
